Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast conducted the exercise BALTIC CONFIDENCE 01 (BALCON 01) in Baltic Barracks, Szczecin.
The exercise was lead by the Polish Lieutenant-General Zygmunt Sadowski, presently Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast.
The purpose of the exercise was to demonstrate the ability of Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast to integrate NATO personnel as well as individual augmentees and personnel from countries participating in the so-called Partnership-for-Peace programme (PfP) of NATO.
Due to this approximately 480 personnel, including 100 soldiers from 13 PfP nations, participated in the exercise.
The aim of the exercise was to train the Headquarters in the function of a Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command.
This was a necessary preparation for the NATO exercise STRONG RESOLVE 02 which took place in Poland, where HQ MNC NE acted as a Headquarters in a major NATO Crisis Response Operation exercise.
