Between 13th and 14th September 2005, Headquarters of Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) conducted a COMMAND POST EXERCISE 3 (CPX 3) to train selected parts of its military structure in different procedures, prior to Exercise COMPACT EAGLE 2005 (CE 05) and possible deployment to Afghanistan in 2007. Approximately 270 personnel from the following 9 nations participated: Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Turkey. The entire exercise took place in Szczecin and used the computer systems to train military personnel in key military tasks.
The setting and scenario for the exercise was based on fictional scenario that took place on Iberian Peninsula. Within that area there was a growing armed conflict between two countries, Alfaland and Bravoland. The situation led to decision by United Nations Security Council to deploy a stabilisation force to the disputed area in order to separate warring factions and restore peace. The mission was carried out, based on a UN mandate, authorising NATO to intervene with Supreme Allied Commander Europe as the strategic commander. That exercise did not represent any existing or potential real-world events or situations. The CPX was a part of the training programme towards Compact EAGLE 05 and was an important tool to train participants in high intensity war fighting, operational planning, and command and control at the operational and tactical level.
