The servicemen from all nations of the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast who are represented in Baltic Barracks assembled the ceremony of raising the flag of the Czech Republic.
The Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms, conducted the ceremony at 11.00 on Pomeranian Square. Accompanied by the Guard of Honour, Major J. Stojan and Major J. Tomsicek (Czech Republic) raised the Czech’s flag.Six years ago, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland became parties to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The joining accession to the Atlantic Alliance for those countries is regarded as a decisive step in overcoming the Europe's Cold War division. But the membership in NATO did not only benefit for these countries, it was also a major and positive challenge forward to the transformation of the Alliance.
In view of this fact, the Czech Republic expressed an interest in sending its soldiers to serve at Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin, Poland. The Danish-German-Polish Corps Committee, the Corps’ superior and the governmental body accepted that idea. As a result the two first staff officers from the Czech Republic officially joint the Headquarters on the 1st of October 2005.
