On 14th June it was really hot in Szczecin. But it was even hotter in the NCO club when the soldiers from HQ MNC NE celebrated a Multinational Soccer Evening during the FIFA World Cup match between Germany and Poland.
The Polish and German support elements of the HQ MNC NE took the opportunity and organized a special evening for all servicemen, who wanted to watch the game together with their comrades. Undoubtedly, it was a very special evening especially for the Polish and German soldiers, who watched the game almost breathless.
Just when it looked, as they would have to settle for a draw, substitute Neuville popped up in the area and in the first minute of the added time he scored 1:0 for Germany. The whole NCO Club was almost blown up with the scream of 70 throats – GOAAAL! The Poles were of course very disappointed, but "game is a game" and after the final whistle all soccer fans came together and congratulated Germans on victory of their national team and wished them success in the following FIFA World Cup matches. Even tough Polish fans were aware of the fact that the Polish team would return to Poland earlier than they hoped, they joined the celebration and had wonderful time together. "It doesn’t matter whom you root for. The great thing is to be together and enjoy the sportsmanship spirit and the beauty of football" – said Maj Jacek Desecki (POL A) After the exciting game all the participants of that evening joined the common barbecue together with their families.
Actually, the real celebration started shortly before the game, when all the football experts and fans gather on the terrace, discussing and exchanging their views and speculating about the final results of the Championship. Meanwhile, sausages and shish were sizzling on the grill and the delicious smells of grilled meat wafted around the Jutland Garden. It was a great evening with magnificent sport fight, relaxed atmosphere that prevailed among the HQ personnel during and after the match, just like during everyday staff work.
