The Commander of MNC NE Lieutenant General Egon Ramms and Chief of Staff Brigadier General Henryk Skarzynski, together with local politician, MNC NE’s soldiers and their families met on the annual tree planting in Szczecin’s municipal forests.
On Saturday, it was without long speeches. The gift of the gab and political correctness did not count, rather skilful hands to work. Everybody had a clear task to carry out – to plant 7,5 thousands oaks and beech trees. For most of the participants it was not a first time to hold a spade in hands. As the "tree planting" already became a great family tradition in Headquarters "I think each man should build a house, plant a tree and have a son." – said with the smile WO Z. Pilatowski. I have two wonderful daughters and today we have planted together 67 trees. The house is still in front of me. – he added. Especially, that "The art of planting tree is not so difficult – just put the tree in the whole and tread in a plant" – claimed Lt Col Z. Sliwa.
It should be emphasized that the official submission was not used. Both Lieutenant General Egon Ramms and General Henryk Skarzynski were digging intensively by themselves, though they could order their corporals to do it. "The young man has to spare himself, the whole life is in front of him, and I feel in a good shape and in condition to dig with a shovel" – said general Henryk Skarzynski with the smile.
The volunteers' work result is the 10-years old forest, called Saint Wojciech grove. By the year, the small forest is getting bigger and bigger. Even though people will change, it will stay and grow further.
