
His Excellence Prof. Dr. Horst Koehler, President of the Federal Republic of Germany and His Excellence Mr. Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland, were scheduled to visit Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) on their first one – day official visit on 28th June 2006.
The honoured guests were welcomed by the Commander of HQ MNC NE, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms, the Deputy Commander of HQ MNC NE, Major General Jan Brun Andersen and by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Henryk Skarżyński. The Headquarters received the presidents with all due ceremony such as playing national anthems and reviewing a military guard of honour. The reason for this visit was to acquaint distinguished guests with plans and trainings of Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast for the upcoming mission deployment in Afghanistan. Therefore, the itinerary included the participation of the two presidents in the “Mission Specific Training: Results of the exploitation tours to Afghanistan” and in the presentation of Lieutenant General Egon Ramms on the current Corps’ status. Later during the day, the presidents were invited for a special “Round Table” meeting with the representatives of all nations and different posts from HQ. That meeting was an occasion to discuss general issues such as internal integration among soldiers, future tasks and challenges of HQ MNC NE, with emphasis on the Corps’ preparation to ISAF X deployment. Finally, the Presidents expressed their satisfaction with the successful certification and achievement by HQ MNC NE of Full Operational Capability as well as their appreciation of the work done by the staff of HQ MNC NE and praised their commitment and professionalism.
