Scorching weather did not discourage 64 golfers to take part in MNC NE INVITATIONAL 2006 Golf Tournament organized by the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) Allied Sports Club, Golf Branch on 7th and 8th of July 2006. The 18 holes tournament was mainly a match among teams each day, with prizes to the 6 best teams. Additionally, during both days there were individual matches divided into Ladies’ and Gentelmen’s series.
Danish, German, Polish and Slovak golf-players gathered on Friday at 9 o’clock at Binowo Park Golf Club, in Szczecin ready to fight for the golf trophies and prizes. Before the official gun start, participants were put into 16 teams consisting of 4 players with different level of the experience and skills to provide all with the equal opportunities. Then, the game started.
It was not easy to play for 5 hours in the extreme heat, reaching 35° Celsius, even though the participants enjoyed being on the golf course. We were really fighting with the heat. The sun was merciless for us, as we were merciless for the other teams – added with the smile WO J. Bergman. Especially that the HQ MNC NE presented a strong team for that tournament, among which there were real golf enthusiasts.
Sustaining the truth that sport is unpredictable, the final individual result of tournament was a huge surprise for especially the winner in gentlemen series Major Radomír Curny from Slovak Army. He has started to play golf in April this year. "I could not believe, I won. Obviously, I was training a lot and I had great teachers, but definitely many of my colleagues are much more experienced in golf than I am. I feel really great" – said Major Curny shortly after his final hit. The winner in Ladies series became Mrs Aneta Aloksa-Majewska from Binowo Golf Park, from Poland. After the first competition day, all players met during the social event in Baltic Barracks, for discussing, exchanging their expert views and speculating on the final result of the tournament. Undoubtedly, the golf tournament became already a good rooted tradition in Baltic Barracks, and will definitely have its continuation in the future.
The event was sponsored by the following companies: Audi Denmark, Atrium Hotel, BNP Pay Bas, Callaway, Ceramic Gallery, Crystal Shop, Danish Element, Mizuno, Mærsk Data Defence, Novotel Hotel, Orlen Patrol Company, Printtex of Denmark, Radisson SAS Hotel, SAAB Poland, Samsøe and Samsøe, Szczecin Idræts Forening, Unibrew Denmark, Vestas Denmark.
