On 19th October a group of about 160 officers and NCOs came back from the Mission Rehearsal Training in Stavanger, Norway. They landed at the Goleniów Airport a few minutes past 1 p.m. The HQ MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Egon Ramms and soldiers’ families welcomed them warmly.
The training in Stavanger took place from 9th to 18th October 2006 at the NATO training centre, Joint Warfare Centre (JWC). The training constituted another important step in preparations before the deployment to Afghanistan. During the training the officers learned how to assess the situation appropriately. Current cultural, political or religious conditions were introduced to them. Numerous variants of possible developments of the situation were discussed; those not desired as well, for example a terrorist attack or a helicopter crash.
The Commander is fully satisfied with the result of this training and considers it a good investment. The officers presented high standards and appeared to be as good or even better than other participants of the training. But this particular training does not end the preparations before Afghanistan deployment. Now it is time for trainings conducted individually by nations. Only then the final arrangements are going to start before the deployment to Afghanistan, which is scheduled for January and February next year.
The mission in Afghanistan expresses the will of the democratic world to bring back peace to Afghanistan. Not only 26 members of NATO, but altogether 36 countries decided to take part in this undertaking. Afghanistan is now divided into five areas (north, south, east, west and city Kabul itself), where cooperation of these countries is expected to help to create a more peaceful situation in Afghanistan.
