To commemorate this event of vital importance, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms, the Commander of HQ MNC NE, invited a number of honoured guests, as well as the members of all nations represented in the Corps.
On October 04, 2006 the German Community at Baltic Barracks celebrated its "German Unity Day" (Tag der Deutschen Einheit). This historical event took place on October 3rd, 1990, when the separation of the two former German states finally came to an end with the unification of the Federal Democratic Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic under Article 23 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany.
As the symbol of the Cold War, namely the Berlin Wall, had already been torn down, there was no doubt for East Germans to face the world together with West Germans.
To commemorate this event of vital importance, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms, the Commander of HQ MNC NE, invited a number of honoured guests, as well as the members of all nations represented in the Corps.
Lieutenant General Egon Ramms mentioned in his opening speech the importance of integration – the integration in the sense of former German Democratic Republic (GDR) and Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), but also in the sense of integration within NATO member – states, especially in the HQ MNC NE. He emphasized that without tolerance and respect successful integration would not be possible.
The Honorary Consul of Germany Bartłomiej Sochański focused mainly on German – Polish relations.
The final speech was delivered by the Marshal of Westpomerania, Zygmunt Meyer, who provided the historical perspective of the event. The Classic String Quartet Szczecin headed by Katarzyna Smoleń provided the musical setting, while the exhibition of “Bundeswehr on Missions” gave the visual one.
