On 27th November a traditional Danish Christmas event, Jule–Gløgg, was organized for the eighth time. The community from the HQ MNC NE altogether with the invited guests gathered at the Garrison Church to listen to prayers and Christmas songs and carols. The most special moment was when the St. Lucia procession of children dressed in white entered the church. The children were singing the St. Lucia song and holding the candles, which illuminated the church. Traditionally one girl was chosen to be the Lucia bride so she had a wreath of fir and candles on her head and was leading the whole procession of light.
The second part of this Christmas event, which took place at Baltic Barracks, was also very unique. The guests met in the gym, which was beautifully decorated with thousands of lights. This cosy and warm atmosphere encouraged everybody to taste traditional Danish Christmas delicacies. The aroma of Jule–Gløgg permeated in the air. Traditional Jule–Gløgg consists of red wine and a drop of brandy or snaps with raisins, pieces of almond, cinnamon, cardamom and other spices. Jule–Gløgg is usually served with a small hot cake of batter called "apple-piece" even though it does not contain apple anymore. It is eaten with jam and sugar or icing sugar instead.
Apart from talks, laughter and children playing around a huge Christmas tree, the money was raised for charity. This year the funds will go to the Special Needs School in Stare Czarnowo.
After the Jule–Gløgg event the atmosphere of Christmas cannot disappear. All we can do is to wait until Christmas Eve comes so that everybody could spend this special time with his or her family and friends.
