Today all flags at the HQ MNC NE were lowered to half-mast as a sign of mourning. In this way all members of the Headquarters paid a tribute to 23 miners who died in a fatal accident in the coalmine "Halema" in Ruda Slaska.
It was one of the most tragic accidents in Polish mining history. In fact, this part of the coalmine was to be closed and some demolition works were done there. Although it is not yet known what caused the accident, the miners worked in a very dangerous area with the high risk of methane explosion.
The accident took place on 21st November. The rescue operation lasted 38 hours 1030 meters under the ground but everybody believed in a miracle. Unfortunately, none of the miners was rescued. The youngest miner was 21 and the oldest was 59 years old.
All members of the Headquarters join the state of mourning.
