HQ MNC NE in order to keep the public informed about the situation in Afghanistan and the Permanent Headquarters in Szczecin decided to organize a set of meetings with the media representatives on regular basis. On 14th March 2007 the first meeting of that kind was held.
The representatives of local and all-Poland televisions, as well as journalists from several radio stations and newspapers gathered at the Baltic Barracks ready to take part in a briefing on Afghanistan. The Chief of Staff Permanent Headquarters, LtCol Helmut Foag, introduced them to basic information on International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan, the main tasks for the mission and MNC NE contribution to ongoing ISAF X. Furthermore, the structure of the Permanent Headquarters was presented and the institution of Family Care Centre supporting the families of those soldiers who have gone on the mission.
A high spot of the event was a teleconference with Major General Jan Brun Andersen, Deputy Commander MNC NE, who is currently holding a post of Deputy Chief of Staff Operations in ISAF in Afghanistan. Gen. Andersen was very pleased to answer all the questions. The journalists were interested in the current situation in Afghanistan, the Operation Achilles as well as an alleged Taliban offensive. Gen. Andersen expressed his satisfaction with growing success of the NATO operation in Afghanistan and support of the civilians and Afghan forces. MNC NE contribution to ISAF X was also talked over; Gen. Andersen emphasized excellent and professional preparation of our personnel prior to the mission, which allows them to fulfill all the tasks successfully. The journalists were even interested in daily routines of the soldiers.
The teleconference was followed by a press conference with the Chief of Staff Permanent Headquarters, LtCol Helmut Foag. Also the spokesman for the HQ MNC NE and Senior National Officers from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia were ready to dispel any doubts and answer the journalists’ questions. The conversations were continued at the common lunch.
