On 4th October 2007 German Community of the Baltic Barracks commemorated the 17th anniversary of reunification of German states.
Not only other members of the Headquarters celebrated this event together with the Germans, but also honourable guests including BrigGen Andrzej Gwadera, Deputy Commander of the 12th Mechanized Division, Mr. Bartłomiej Sochański, the Honorary Consul of Germany as well as representatives from the Westpomeranian Voivodeship, the Police, the Fire Brigade and the Border Guards.
BrigGen Josef Heinrichs, the Chief of Staff of Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast, delivered an opening speech in which he referred to this memorable period when on 3rd October 1990, one year after the Berlin Wall fell, two German states united again into Federal Republic of Germany. As General expressed, this event still evokes strong emotions – gratefulness, pride and optimism. Nevertheless, it is the future that counts and the future development of the German state is among others related to the rule of federalism. With reference to this idea, a special exhibition was being staged, presenting flags and short descriptions of all German Lands.
Also Mr. Bartłomiej Sochański, Honorary Consul of Germany, held the floor and spoke not only about historical background of German Reunification and a great effort and perseverance of German people, but also indicated parallels to Polish history. He presented positive effects of those events stressing for example cross-border cooperation of governmental authorities, different organisations and institutions, but also ordinary people. Teamwork within our multinational Headquarters served as an example of unique cooperation on military level.
Musical setting arranged by a military band from the German Mechanized Division created a nice atmosphere, which accompanied the guests throughout the official and also unofficial part of the celebration.
