Commander of the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast Lieutenant General Zdzislaw Goral on behalf of Baltic Barracks Polish community requested the pleasure of the company of all HQ MNC NE members at the reception on the occasion of the Polish Independence Day.
11th November is a special day for Poles, commemorating Poland’s return to the map of sovereign European states in 1918 after 123 years of foreign rule. The Polish State disappeared from Europe's map after the Third Partition in 1795. The Partitions of Poland in 1772, 1793, and 1795 divided the Polish Kingdom among its three powerful neighbors.
Following the programme of event Lieutenant General Zdzislaw Goral welcomed all the gathered guests and then short information concerning the historical background and importance of November 11th, 1918 was presented.
In was underlined in that speech that today NATO is a pillar of Polish independence and European security because it is based on the principle of solidarity. President Truman was quoted: " None of us alone can achieve economic prosperity or military security. None of us alone can assure the continuance of freedom".
Referring to the present time it was stressed that Poland today is a sovereign country, which also contribute to the security in the world. Polish Armed Forces are under constant transformation to be better equipped and trained. Polish troops take part in the NATO mission in Kosovo, Afghanistan and contribute to the stabilization of Iraq. The country achieved great results when it comes to development and prosperity of the Polish population.
Finally the role of our Corps contributing so much to good cooperation and security of all our countries was emphasised.
At the end of the official part of the ceremony Commander HQ MNC NE presented LtCol W. Baumann from the Air Operations Coordination Centre and Maj J. Wrona with the silver medals of the Polish Army.
