The end of 2007 brings important and awaited decisions for the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast taken during the 30th Corps Committee Meeting.
On 13th and 14th December 2007 the Corps Committee was debating at the Baltic Barracks. COL E. Szajbel representing Poland acted as the Chairman. The Danish Co-Chairman was COL J. Kofoed whereas German Co-Chairman was COL S. Thomas. As it is normally the case, along with the representatives of the three Framework Nations also the Corps Command Group and G-5 members were present at the Corps Committee Meeting. This time four working groups provided their specialist expertise on the Corps-related matters.
Decisions taken during that even brought solutions to three significant issues. The Infrastructure Project has received the final approval of the Corps Committee, which means that the building process of new facilities for the Corps can start next year.
Moreover, the Corps Committee members were present at the ceremony of signing the Command and Control Information System (C2IS) “SZAFRAN”. The implementation of the system will enhance operational capabilities of the Corps and establishing interoperability with other Headquarters and Command Posts.
Finally, the new Corps' Peace Establishment (PE) structure was accepted. Since today, apart from other changes, the Corps has officially one more division in its structure, namely G-8. Until now it was G-5, which was concerned with all financial and budget matters.
It was the last time when Poland held chairmanship of the Corps Committee. During the next meeting, which is going to take place in March 2008, Germany will be in lead. The term of chairmanship lasts one year.
