On 13 February 2006, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms, Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE), inaugurated the Satellite Communications (SATCOM) central station in Baltic Barracks in Szczecin, Poland.
Among many invited quests there were commanders of 100 Polish Signal Battalion and Command Support Brigade MNC NE as well as representatives of the Polish company TTComm S.A. from Warsaw.
Last year Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast initiated the process of selecting the satellite communication operator, in order to meet NATO requirements in the field of communication and information systems. As a result of an international tender the company TTComm S.A. from Warsaw was chosen to lead the large communication project, which includes: providing mobile SATCOM equipment for MNC NE Field Headquarters, the maintenance of the equipment and necessary training for the personnel of the Signal Battalions to acknowledge soldiers how to operate with the equipment.
During the inauguration speech Lieutenant General Egon Ramms said that establishing the SATCOM facilities was significant for the Corps and it underlined the development of HQ MNC NE into a military organization, which is deployable and ready to carry out missions all over the world. The system is invaluable during a mission, as permanent contact can be maintained from the mission area wherever it might be, back to the Headquarters at Baltic Barracks in Szczecin when the HQ is deployed. The system can transmit vital operational information as well as general information to keep the families informed about the situation in the mission area. Furthermore, Lieutenant General Egon Ramms underlined that SATCOM project was one of the prerequisites of the HQ MNC NE’s success in the Final Operational Capability (FOC) evaluation, that NATO conducted during the international exercise COMPACT EAGLE 05, in November last year. The Commander of HQ MNC NE also took an opportunity to express his deep gratitude to the company TTComm S.A. for the efficient support it provided so far in the preparation of satellite installation and in the FOC evaluation during exercise COMPACT EAGLE 2005.
