Most of youth officers from German Youth Information Office have never been to the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast before. Therefore their visit to the Headquarters on 29th April 2008 was so important, as their knowledge about the Corps can be further shared with the young German generation.
Altogether twenty youth officers from German Youth Information Office visited the Corps with the expectations of learning new things and observing how work at this multinational Corps really looks. As Capt. Thomas Duhme and Capt. Henrik Otto admitted, they have already heard about the Corps a lot. Chief Visitors and Observes Bureau LtCol. Detlef Schachel did his best to present all interesting Corps-related issues in a briefing referring to things like mission and tasks of the Corps, its structure, challenges or already completed mission in Afghanistan. The importance of such formations like this Corps can be summarized by Capt. Duhme, who stated that such multinational relations cherished in this Corps is actually the future and the only way to go.
Youth Information Office seems to play an important role in educating young Germans. Its officers visit secondary schools and universities in order to discuss security policy in Germany as well as to present issues related to United Nations or European Union, Capt. Otto explained. Young people are also informed about the German Armed Forces and their tasks in Afghanistan or Kosovo, Capt. Duhme added. It is also interesting to mention that not only students but also teachers take part in different seminars and meetings organised by this institution.
Apart from a key point in the programme, namely the visit to the Corps, youth officers went on a sightseeing tour in order to admire Szczecin, the garrison city for the Corps.
