Since the Multinational Corps Northeast promotes multinational cooperation, school projects serving this idea are always welcome. More than 30 students from the Polish Secondary School No 2 in Szczecin and the German Comprehensive School in Lübeck visited the Baltic Barracks on 10th April 2008.
Multinational cooperation on school level
The partnership between the Polish Secondary School No 2 in Szczecin and the German Comprehensive School in Lübeck enables organising exchange visits. Currently 16 German students, lodged at their Polish friends’ houses, are visiting different places in Poland. As the German teacher who accompanies the group Ms. Gundula Beuster says, the idea behind organising such exchange programmes is for the Polish students to practise speaking German whereas for the German students – to preserve and develop relations with the countries lying at the Baltic Sea. As she said, their school is also known as the Baltic or European School and has also established partnership with schools in Lithuania and Sweden.
The visit to the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast was just a part of a rich programme, which included sightseeing not only in Szczecin but also for example in Kołobrzeg. The students listened to a briefing delivered by the Chief Visitors & Observers Bureau LtCol Detlef Schachel on main idea of the Corps, its history and organisation as well as the recent mission in Afghanistan or the upcoming exercise Crystal Eagle. As Ms. Beuster stated, it was especially interesting to learn about the Corps’ experiences from the mission in Afghanistan because she not only teaches German and Economics, but also Political Science. The topic concerning the mission in Afghanistan was already discussed with the students during the classes so the confrontation between their assumptions and real experiences was very valuable.
Sports follow-up
When the academic part of the visit was over, the students moved to the Corps’ Gym, where they played basketball and football matches, during which they could make use of their indefatigable energy.
