A shake of hands between the Commander Multinational Corps Northeast Lieutenant General Zdzisław Goral and his new Deputy Danish Major General Ole Køppen officially sealed the beginning of duty for Major General Køppen. The welcome ceremony took place at the Baltic Barracks on 5th June 2008.
The MNC NE military and civilian members, personnel of the National Support Elements as well as the German ODA (Office of Defence Administration) gathered at the Pomeranian Square to welcome the new Deputy Commander Multinational Corps Northeast. Commander MNC NE Lieutenant General Zdzisław Goral greeted his new Deputy and in short introduced his profile to the gathered personnel. Major General Ole Køppen recalled his way to this Headquarters in his speech. Seven weeks ago one phone call initiated a chain of events that eventually resulted in his appearance at the Baltic Barracks. Major General Køppen arrived in Szczecin together with his wife.
Major General Køppen officially started his MNC NE tour of duty on 1st June 2008. There is a lot of work ahead as he needs to get to know the MNC NE personnel and introduce himself into the work of the Corps, however, with the open and friendly approach of Major General Køppen, this task will definitely be completed very soon.
