The thirty-second session of the Corps Committee Meeting was successfully accomplished on 5th and 6th June 2008.
This Corps Committee Meeting, similarly to the previous one, was chaired by German Col S. Thomas, whereas a Pole, BrigGen A. Wojtan and a Dane, Col J. Kofoed were co-chairmen of the Committee.
Moving forward
Among numerous points raised during the meeting, preparations for the main Exercise Crystal Eagle 2008 were thoroughly discussed. Moreover, the Corps Committee members were interested in a status of implementation of a Command and Control Information System SZAFRAN and so-called Headquarters Concept. Since 2009 is a year of the Corps’ 10th anniversary, general agreements concerning these celebrations were made, for example a special budget for the event will be set. The process of creating amendments to the Corps’ most important documents, that is the Corps Convention and Corps Directive, are still ongoing.
There was an intensive and fruitful discussion about “The Commander’s MNC NE Vision on a future MNC NE Training & Exercise Policy”. But the Corps Committee clearly stated that the main effort for the MNC NE would be the preparation for the next International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan 2010.
Contribution to foundations of a new facility
The Corps Committee members were also part of the ceremony that took place on 6th June 2008, during which the process of building a new facility for the Corps was initiated. A symbolic act of laying foundations for a new building was performed by the Commander Multinational Corps Northeast LtGen Zdzisław Goral; afterwards, the Corps Committee members and other guests followed the Commander.
Szczecin – a garrison city for the Corps
This Corps Committee session was unique due to a social programme prepared for the participants. A sightseeing tour gave them a chance to learn more about Szczecin, a garrison city for the Corps that influences the character of the Headquarters.
The next Corps Committee Meeting is scheduled for September. It is going to take place in Bonn.
