Lieutenant General Zdzisław Goral, Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast took part in a change of command ceremony at the 1st German-Netherlands Corps on 2nd July 2008.
Dutch Lieutenant General Tony van Diepenbrugge handed over the command of 1st German-Netherlands Corps to German Lieutenant General Volker Wieker. The official ceremony took place in Nordkirchen at the Nordkirchen castle courtyard. Among the invited guests there was MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Zdzisław Goral, German Minister of Defence Franz Josef Jung, Dutch Minister of Defence Eimert van Middelkoop, represenatives of sister corps and many others.
For the outgoing corps commander so-called Great Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich in German) was prepared, which was hosted by the German Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Budde. It is the most important ceremonial act in the German Armed Forces performed only on special occasions. A highly memorable moment is an honourable formation of torch carriers; therefore such cermonies usually take place in the evening hours, as it was in this case.
