Multinational delegation from Multinational Corps Northeast laid a wreath at the Monument of Poles’ Deed on 5th July 2008, Szczecin’s 63rd Anniversary of coming under Polish authority.
In order to commemorate events of 5th July 1945 when Polish administration eventually took over Szczecin, an official celebration organised by the city of Szczecin took place at Jasne Błonia. At noon sharp wreaths were laid at the Monument of Poles’ Deed depicting three eagles, which are to symbolize three generations of Poles, which contributed to the reconstruction and development of Szczecin after the Second World War. Multinational Corps Northeast was represented by Danish Colonel Søren B. Bojesen, German Colonel (GS) Peter Baierl and Polish Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Płoucha. A wreath with blue ribbon laid at the basement of the monument symbolizes the Corps’ involvement in the matters of Szczecin, home garrison of Multinational Corps Northeast.
The whole event, which lasted until late afternoon hours, was very much focused on residents of Szczecin. Apart from the official ceremony, there were other outdoor attractions organised. For example there was tasting specially baked birthday cake. Moreover, there were games and competitions for children, policemen and firemen’s demonstrations, theatre performances and concerts.
