About 30 ladies gathered at the Allied Officers’ Club to see what the future may bring to them. In the magic and exceptional atmosphere, with fortune telling and singing, the ladies celebrated the Saint Andrew’s Day on November 27th.
Saint Andrew’s Day
The Saint Andrew’s Day is a popular event in Poland, however, it is not well known in other countries of the Corps. Therefore, the celebration of the Saint Andrew’s Day at the Baltic Barracks is a great opportunity for the Poles to share this unique tradition with other members of the Headquarters. This year, similarly to the previous ones, Polish ladies from the Ladies’ Club invited other members of the Club from all nations for an unusual evening with fortune telling and an enormous amount of positive energy and fun. For this special moment, the Allied Officers’ Club (AOC) changed into a place where the future can be puzzled out.
The first signs of the upcoming future were waiting right at the entrance as each lady received a special gift with a prediction attached. In fact, the whole evening was devoted to fortune telling of different kind. A "compulsory" point in the programme was pouring melted wax through the hole of a key into the bowl of water. Different shapes of hardened wax were used to cast shadows over the wall, which revealed the future. Another way of checking what might happen included peeling an apple – the lady who managed to create the longest apple peeling was the person with the biggest luck. A very entertaining way of fortune telling was putting shoes in a line from the wall to the door. In the version "adjusted" by the ladies themselves, the owner of the shoe, which crossed the threshold, may expect to become a grandmother soon. It is important to mention that the whole fortune telling was done in two languages – Polish and English so that everyone was certain that the prohesy was understood correctly.
Apart from fortune telling, everybody could sing their favourite songs in karaoke versions in four languages – Danish English, German and Polish. It was more than enough to make this evening remarkable and unforgettable. Not only did the ladies learn about their future, but they also had fun spending time together.
