In order to improve the ability of giving first aid and saving people’s lives, the Medical Centre of the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast conducted special medial training on November 19, 2008.
It was already the second time when the Medical Centre organised first aid training for the Polish personnel of the Multinational Corps Northeast and Headquarters Company. The main idea was to meet the need of constant improvement of those necessary skills. Even though most of us do not use them on a daily basis, they become crucial in case of unexpected accidents or injuries. As a matter a fact, a lot of people requested for such training treating it as valuable and important experience.
The training was focused on two main themes – the first one being heart massage and breath restoring whereas the second one – giving first aid in case of different types of injury. The training was conducted by two members of the Medical Centre who also work as medical rescuers – sergeant Julita Boleń and sergeant Marcin Łęga. Therefore, there was little theory and a lot of practice, which is in accordance with the newest standards of the European Union.Meeting George
One part of the training was devoted to learning how to approach an unconscious person, and if needed, how to make a heart massage to restore breathing. George, a manikin, was very useful at that stage of the training. Everybody could try it to see if he or she is able to make the massage correctly. Instructions given by sergeant Boleń turned out to be very useful and even if the participants had already had similar medical training in the past, there were a lot of things they found new and interesting. Special treatment of children was also discussed and tried on a smaller manikin.
The second part of the training was focused on giving aid in case of injuries of different kind – burns, cuts, stab or gunshot wounds, backbone injuries, epileptic fits, heart attack and many others. Sergeant Łęga explained how to behave in each case to bring relief to the injured. In fact, the participants actively got involved into the training and conducted vivid discussions. It was very interesting for them that the trainers presented real life cases they faced during their duty.
Due to the fact that not everybody could take part in the training, subsequent trainings are planned for the future.
