About 100 students from Szczecin’s High Schools Complex No 4 visited Baltic Barracks on 4 and 5 March 2009 to get acquainted with the idea of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE).
The students were divided into two groups, which followed the same programme. During a briefing on Multinational Corps Northeast presented by Lieutenant Colonel Detlef Schachel, Chief of the Visitors and Observers Bureau, they had a chance to learn about the Corps’ history, structure and tasks. A very interesting topic for them was an account of the mission in Afghanistan, in which HQ MNC NE personnel participated in 2007. In fact, a lot of students simply wanted to see what it is like to be a soldier and what are the military actually for. It is worth mentioning that one of the groups received a briefing in English and the other – in German. As a result, the students had an excellent opportunity not only to learn something about the Corps, but also practise their language skills.
The visit to Baltic Barracks must have been especially interesting to one of the teachers, Ms Aleksandra Fendor, who made some translations in 1997 and 1998 for people discussing the establishment of the Corps in Szczecin. Long before the flags were raised at Baltic Barracks, she had been acquainted with the idea of Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin.
