Deputy Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Major General Ole Køppen took part in the NATO Corps Commanders’ Seminar hosted by the Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Turkey (NRDC-Turkey). The Seminar was held on 16 and 17 March 2009 in Istanbul.
The Seminar in Istanbul was dominated mostly by discussions related to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. The Commander of the NRDC-Turkey presented his Corps’ experiences gathered in Afghanistan. The discussion also touched on the manning issues within the Headquarters ISAF and its structure, which cannot be filled by one Corps independently. During the Seminar also the role and future developments of the Corps were thoroughly discussed as well as the cooperation within the NATO Force Structure and NATO Command Structure. Apart from that, the Seminar participants talked, for example, about Deployable Joint Staff Elements and Effects Based Approach to Operations.
MNC NE Deputy Commander General Køppen assessed the Seminar very positively: "It was extremely interesting to listen to senior colleagues having so much experience. Besides, it was simply an excellent conference – perfectly planned and perfectly carried out".
