Familiarization with the status of major MNC NE projects in 2009 was high in the agenda of the 35th Corps Committee meeting, which took place on 15 and 16 April 2009 in Baltic Barracks.
The Corps Committee as a supervisory body of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) meets every quarter to receive an update on ongoing and future projects, challenges and activities as well as to provide guidance for the Corps. The Corps Committee is composed of representatives of the Framework Nations, i.e. Denmark, Germany and Poland. The chairman of the 35th Corps Committee meeting held in Szczecin was a Danish Colonel Lars Møller and two co-chairmen were Brigadier General Anatol Wojtan as the Polish representative and Colonel Stephan Thomas as the German representative.
Updates and decisions needed
A large number of significant topics were brought to the agenda during the meeting. Among them updates on the progress of the preparation for the upcoming deployment of Headquarters personnel for ISAF mission in 2010, and the 10th Anniversary of the MNC NE were presented. The representatives of the Framework Nations had also a chance to see the progress of construction of a new, multifunctional building and they were amazed by its advanced level.
The Corps Committee meeting was also an excellent occasion to finalize the process of amendments to MNC NE founding documents. Since the establishment of the Corps in 1999, its development has been a permanent process, which has created a need to bring up to date some basic documents. During this Corps Committee meeting the Amendment No 1 to the MNC NE Corps Convention was signed. Major changes refer to new names of troops, allied common operations, changes in personnel regarding all Participating States and description of a new role of HQ MNC NE as a NATO Graduated Readiness Forces Headquarters.
The members of the Corps Committee expressed satisfaction over the organisation of the meeting and also emphasized a very good atmosphere in the Headquarters. The meeting was described as very successful and fruitful.
The next Corps Committee meeting is going to take place in August this year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
