Members of the Training Department of the Danish Army Non-commissioned Officers (NCO) School with Major Jan Gade as their Chief visited the Baltic Barracks on 27 and 28 April 2009.
Sergeant Major Gert Larsen from the Training Department of the School, the organiser of the visit, explained that the visit to the Baltic Barracks was correlated with an annual seminar conducted within the Department. This year the aim of the meeting was to develop tasks and organisation of the Department, integrate new members into their community and also learn about the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) in Szczecin. For Sergeant Major Larsen visiting the Baltic Barracks was especially unique since he was a member of the HQ MNC NE: "I still feel connected with the Headquarters in a way", as he said. He also admitted that he felt happy that he could come back at least for a while.
Visitors from the Danish Army NCO School took part in a standard briefing on MNC NE delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Detlef Schachel, Chief of Visitors and Observers Bureau, during which the Corps’ organisation, structure and tasks were presented. Apart from that, Sergeant Major Michael Frøslev from G1 Division touched upon purely national matters and talked about Danish soldiers serving in the Headquarters.
The rest of their programme covered topics related to the seminar. Danish guests also took part in the sightseeing tour to see Szczecin, home garrison of the Corps.
The Danish Army Non-commissioned Officers (NCO) School trains approximately 450 students per year. NCOs take part in 6-month courses, after which they can be promoted to the rank of a sergeant. Having achieved this level of education, they can opt for further professional development.
