The personnel of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) eagerly got involved in charity activities of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Support. The Corps played together with the Orchestra during the 18th Finale which took place on 10 January 2010.
Great Orchestra of Christmas Support
The Corps has always found it important to participate in community actions as they strengthen ties among the people and bring in lots of good spirit. Supporting activities of the Polish Great Orchestra of Christmas Support additionally contributed to better medical treatment of ill children since all money raised in this year’s Finale would be spent on equipment for cancer diagnostics and therapy.
As a matter of fact, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Support did a lot of good for the last 18 years funding medical equipment to Polish hospitals. Each year after Christmas, finales are organised in different cities across Poland accompanied with happenings and concerts. During those events money is collected by volunteers who approach good-hearted people asking for small donations. Apart from that, many public and private companies actively support the whole undertaking. The culminating point is always so-called "light to the sky" when the brightness illuminate the winter sky. Moreover, taking an advantage of benefits of science, numerous auctions are put up on the Internet before and after Christmas. Afterwards, all money gathered this way is forwarded to the Orchestra. This incredible community action already crossed Poland’s borders involving Poles living abroad as well as foreigners.
18th Finale
Even though the thermometers indicated several degrees below zero, lots of people gathered nearby one of Szczecin's shopping centres where a stage was built up and numerous attractions prepared. One of them was the MNC NE Corps Promotion Tent where everybody could drop a zloty or two into special boxes prepared by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Support. Each person visiting the Tent could also receive MNC NE balloons and flags and learn about the Corps from specially prepared fliers, magazines and a chronological exhibition illustrating the Corps history and achievements. Everyone could also take a snap in stands with photographic background presenting Danish, German and Polish dessert battle dress uniforms.
Other activities
The Corps’ involvement went beyond the actual participation in the Finale. The MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff decided about putting up some Corps-related objects on auctions and, in this way, to collect some money. They included the unique copy of the Corps Medal, the 10th Anniversary Coin and the MNC NE Crest. Moreover, a few days prior to the Finale, the Headquarters multinational personnel collected money in Baltic Barracks.
