The multinational delegation of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) headed by the MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff paid a visit to the Polish National Museum in Szczecin on 12 March 2010.
In the meanders of museum collections
The MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff, assisted by his Deputy Major General Ole Køppen, the Chief of Staff of the Garrison Headquarters Colonel Peter Steinert as well as Chiefs of Divisions of the Garrison Headquarters and Senior National Officers arrived in the National Museum at Wały Chrobrego on Friday morning eager to learn more about several exhibitions displayed at the Museum. Ms Anna Suchocka from the National Museum showed the MNC NE personnel around presenting each exhibition in detail. The MNC NE delegation saw, among other things, the exhibition of wildlife photographs which took part in the contest "Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009" organised by the BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Museum of Natural History in London, the archeological collection related to the Westpomerania region or the collection of coins dating back to the 12th century. A lot of interest evoked a visit to the reconstructed African village as well as the related exhibition of African masks and gods. A selection of photographs from Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper related to its 10th anniversary of existence turned out to be very inspiring, too.
A highlight of the visit was entering a museum tower with a splendid view of the harbour and the centre of Szczecin. In spite of the slightly foggy weather, it was really worth going up a few hundred steps.
