The delegation of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) honoured the 71st anniversary of initiating the Polish Underground State in a celebration held on 27th September 2010 at the Central Cemetery in Szczecin.
Apart from representatives from the local authorities, veterans, clergy and all uniformed services also the servicemen from three MNC NE Framework Nations, i.e. Denmark, Germany and Poland, participated in the official celebration. The Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast Lieutenant General Rainer Korff, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Bjarne Hoejgaard Jensen and Major Marcin Walczak, left a symbolic bunch of flowers next to Home Army Monument.
The Polish Underground State Day was established by the Polish House of Parliament in 1998. It refers to 27th September 1939 when in sieged capital of Poland – Warsaw the first conspiracy independence organisation was established, which was the beginning of the Underground State. In occupied Europe only Polish citizens formed structures of such kind, which covered almost all spheres of nation’s life. It had its own administration structure, education, the Civil Service and Armed Forces.
