The Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Lieutenant General Rainer Korff warmly welcomed members of the Steuben Barracks Association from Achim visiting the Headquarters on 25 October 2010.
For the MNC NE Commander it was an especially memorable group of visitors since they were coming from the Steuben Barracks Association from Achim in Germany, where General Korff was the Commander of the 11th Armoured Air Defence Tank Regiment from 1993 to 1995. Mr Peter Hahnenfeld, Chairman of the Association, admitted that one of reasons to visit the Baltic Barracks was indeed to meet General Korff, the former Commander of the unit. The visitors were interested in the military structure and mission of the Corps; they also wanted to learn what it is like to work and live in Szczecin, the garrison city of the Headquarters. For that reason, straight after the visit to Baltic Barracks, they went for a guided tour around the city.
The Steuben Barracks Association gathers about 150 active, reserve and off-duty soldiers serving in Achim and nearby barracks. Its main idea is to promote and share knowledge about active units and NATO, and to maintain relations with former commanders. Members of the association meet once a month and usually invite a guest speaker to Achim. However, several times a year, they organise trips visiting other barracks and sightseeing. And for sure, their visit to the Headquarters was one of key points within their itinerary.
