The Polish community of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) invited all members of the Headquarters for the celebration of the Polish Independence Day held at Baltic Barracks on 10 November 2010.
“The date of 11th November in the awareness of Polish people is strictly related to regaining independence. It constitutes the occasion to manifest civilian attitude and affiliation to the society living on the land near the Vistula River for over one thousand years,” said General Sorokosz. He also presented the overall situation in Europe after the First World War ended in 1918 and the efforts Poles had made to regain independence.
After Major General Sorokosz’s speech, the floor was taken by the guest speaker Dr Paweł Gut from the State Archive in Szczecin, who presented the historical background of regaining independence by Poland and challenges the reborn state had to face.
The celebration was complemented by the address made by Bishop Marian Kruszyłowicz as well as the artistic part during which the children’s “Słowiki Choir” and the Military Band of the 12th Mechanized Division performed short concerts.
