The 40th Corps Committee Meeting and 6th Plenary Session was held at Baltic Barracks, Szczecin, from 24 to 25 November 2010 to summarize the passing year and give a way ahead to the Corps for the upcoming future.
During this Corps Committee Meeting, Polish Brigadier General Kazimierz Wójcik acted as the Chairman, whereas Danish Lieutenant Colonel Bjarne Møller and German Colonel (GS) Alfons Mais were the Co-Chairmen. Moreover, all Participating States, i.e. the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and the United States were represented.
Representatives of the three Framework Nations, i.e. Denmark, Germany and Poland, usually meet three times a year to discuss the Corps’ related issues. Once a year, representatives of the eight Participating States to the Corps join the Corps Committee and during a plenary session develop a common picture of the Corps future undertakings.
The key decision taken during this Corps Committee Meeting was approving the Commander’s Vision 2015, which sets the backbone for the development of Multinational Corps Northeast for the upcoming five years. With an overarching idea of the Corps’ way ahead, the vision forms the basis for adapting the Corps to future tasks that may result from the new NATO strategic concept. Moreover, it shall reinforce the Corps’ flexibility, efficiency and attractiveness among the NATO family.
An important part of the Commander’s Vision 2015 is the re-organization of its Headquarters’ structure in order to better meet the expectations and requirements of the ever evolving security situation in the world. First findings for possible changes have already been presented to the Corps Committee. Having received guidance from the Corps Committee now, the Headquarters’ representatives are going to further develop the structural concepts. In addition, a number of internal issues have been discussed, forming a common understanding of the Corps’ development.
At the end of this Corps Committee Meeting, Polish Brigadier General Kazimierz Wójcik handed over his chairmanship to German Colonel (GS) Alfons Mais, thus completing the yearly rotation cycle. In fact, it was the last time that Brigadier General Kazimierz Wójcik and his Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Komorowski as well as the German Secretary Lieutenant Colonel (GS) Ingo Reershemius participated in the Corps Committee Meeting. Commander Multinational Corps Northeast Lieutenant General Rainer Korff expressed his thanks for their hard work as well as for their effective and fruitful co-operation. Since the new Polish representatives in the Corps Committee had already arrived and taken part in the meeting, they were warmly welcomed to the Corps family.
