On the initiative of the Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Lieutenant General Rainer Korff, a meeting of representatives of the uniformed services of Szczecin Garrison was held at Baltic Barracks on 2 December 2010.
The main idea behind organising this meeting was to share information about the mission in Afghanistan and strengthen mutual cooperation. The Commander of the 12th Mechanized Division Major General Marek Tomaszycki, Commander of the 12th Mechanized Brigade Brigadier General Andrzej Tuz, Military Chaplain Colonel Ryszard Stępień, Commander of the Regional Military Staff Commodore Dariusz Bednarczyk, Chief of Pomeranian Border Guard Department Lieutenant Colonel Jarosław Burba, Chief of Military Counterintelligence Service Major Wojciech Skwarski, Deputy Commander of Fire Brigade Department for the City of Szczecin Brigadier Kazimierz Lesisz and Commanding Officer of City Guards Mr Leon Gajewski were among the honourable guests taking part in the common session.
All guests as well as the MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff, the MNC NE Chief of Staff Brigadier General Morten Danielsson, Senior National Officers, Chiefs of Divisions, Air Operations Coordination Centre and Director of Staff Operations gathered at the Auditorium. A briefing on the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan was delivered by Major Tomasz Borowczyk from G5 Division, whereas a general concept of stability operations was presented by Major Michał Leszczyński from the same Division. The question-and-answer phase followed each briefing session.
“It was my pleasure to host you,” said General Korff after the presentations. “Thank you very much for your support and coordination not only with me but also with other members of the Multinational Corps Northeast. I am looking forward to cooperating and coordinating with you also in the future,” General Korff added. The guests were also content with the meeting. “It was an enlightening meeting. It was very kind of the Corps’ Commander to invite all of us. It is a rare occasion to meet in such company,” said Commodore Dariusz Bednarczyk. “The issue of Afghanistan is obviously known to me since the 12th Brigade has been deploying to Afghanistan but today’s meeting clearly shows one thing: we need to closely cooperate with the Corps because the Corps is in possession of a lot of pieces of information we do not necessarily have access to,” stressed Brigadier General Andrzej Tuz. Whereas Major General Marek Tomaszycki related the briefings to his personal experiences from Afghanistan: “It was a very interesting confrontation between what the situation was when I was commanding the 1st Polish Contingent in Afghanistan and what it is now. There have been many fundamental changes made, a completely different command structure, a number of different tasks. You indeed need a lot of work, effort and constructive thinking to manage the situation,” he explained.
