On the occasion of the 130th birth anniversary of General George C. Marshall, Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) and Szczecin’s Nobel House Society organised a military-political seminar held at Baltic Barracks on
8 December 2010.
Presidents of universities and academies, representatives of the world of science and culture of Szczecin, Director and students from the Szczecin International School as well as teachers and students from the School No 2 of the Polish Nobel Prizewinners from Choszczno, altogether about 80 people, took part in the seminar. They were warmly welcomed by the MNC NE Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff and the President of the Nobel House Society Mrs Anna Szachowicz.
“I am happy to see so many guests, especially so many young students” – stated General Korff in his welcome address. “It is of utmost importance to know how vital role General G. C. Marshall played in the foreign policy and rebuilding Europe after the Second World War” – emphasized the MNC NE Commander. “This is why I have decided to host this event in our Barracks”.
“General G. C. Marshall has been the one and only military Peace Nobel Prizewinner ever. This is just a small flame we want to light to commemorate a great man who influenced the history of the post-war Europe so much” – underlined Mrs Szachowicz.
Afterwards, the participants of the seminar got acquainted with the profile of General Marshall. The presentation was interlarded with an artistic performance. That part has been prepared by the students of the School of the Polish Nobel Prizewinners. As the Christmas is just around the corner the last song sang by all assembled guests was the famous “Marry Christmas Everyone”.
Lieutenant General Korff was very impressed with the high level and a very specific way of presenting the topic. In order to express his recognition, the Commander decided to award the performers with the MNC NE Commander’s Coin.
Then, the history and tasks of the Multinational Corps Northeast were presented with a special focus placed on the recently accomplished mission in Afghanistan covering a general overview of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission and the MNC NE contribution to Headquarters ISAF Joint Command. Each presentation has been followed by a question-and-answer period giving all the guests a chance to get to the topics.
The seminar concluded with a small reception held in the Baltic Barracks.
