On 15 December 2010, in a cold, snowy afternoon, the Slovak community of the Multinational Corps Northeast invited all members of the Headquarters for pre-Christmas event presenting traditional Slovak customs.
“It is an honour for us, the Slovak members of our Headquarters to present typical Slovak customs, habits and Slovak culture,” said Lieutenant Colonel Rene Haz, Slovak National Senior Officer, who addressed all guests gathered at the Allied Officers’ Club. He and other Slovak officers were dressed in an exceptional way this day. They were all wearing uniforms of Guard of Honour of the Slovak Armed Forces, the design of which is based on uniforms from 17th century. “These uniforms are very seldom presented outside of the Slovak Republic,” he explained.
The whole event was organised in the Christmas atmosphere so everybody could taste traditional Slovak meals, snack and treats prepared for Christmas as well as Slovak drinks. Most ingredients were brought directly from Slovakia so that original taste could be kept. All members of the Headquarters taking part in the event found Slovak cuisine delicious and, for sure, it will serve as a fine inspiration for culinary experiments in the upcoming Christmas. The multinational environment of the Corps, along with the mixture of cultures and traditions, again proved to be treasure worth cherishing.
