The Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Lieutenant General Rainer Korff, his Deputy Major General Ryszard Sorokosz and the MNC NE Chief of Staff Brigadier General Morten Danielsson participated in the celebration of “December’ 70”, held on 17 December 2010.
The celebration of the tragic events of December 1970, when 16 people were killed during strikes and demonstrations, were honoured by the presence of the President of Poland Mr Bronisław Komorowski. Moreover, in the celebration participated representatives of the local and regional authorities, trades unions, veterans’ associations, the uniformed services, clergy, inhabitants of Szczecin and participants of those events. The Corps’ Command Group, recognizing the importance of the 40th anniversary of these events for Poland and Szczecin, also took part in the municipal celebration.
The MNC NE Commander, his Deputy and Chief of Staff took part in the wreath laying ceremony at the Angel of Liberty Memorial. Afterwards, the MNC NE delegation participated in the second part of celebration at the gate of Szczecin shipyard, where the President of Poland Mr Bronisław Komorowski delivered his address. After all speeches, wreaths were laid at the plaque “In Commemoration of the Fallen in December 1970”.
