The Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Lieutenant General Rainer Korff received the Bethlehem Light of Peace from Westpomeranian scouts during a ceremony held in front of the Szczecin’s Cathedral on 18 December 2010.
In a very warm atmosphere, listening and singing carols, General Korff took part in ritual burning fire brought from light from six different locations of Szczecin by scout’s patrols. After Commander’s greetings to inhabitants of Szczecin, General Korff, as one of the distinguished guests of the ceremony, received the Bethlehem Light of Peace from Westpomeranian scouts.
The Bethlehem Light of Peace – a sign of peace and mutual understanding among people and nations symbolizes the hope for life without conflicts. This light was brought by Austrian scouts to Europe, to Wien, from the cave in Bethlehem where Jesus Christ was born, from which it was shared among other countries, also Poland. Now, the Bethlehem Light of Peace will reach churches, schools, hospitals and other institutions sharing the gospel of life in peace, and it will also be handed over to scouts from other countries.
