Personnel of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) supported the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, the 19th Finale of which took place on 9 January 2011.
It was all about helping ill children for which the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has been collecting money for nineteen years already. The Headquarters’ personnel joined in for the second time supporting this noble action in several ways.
In early December money boxes with red hearts – the symbol of Orchestra – were placed in Baltic Barracks so that the multinational personnel of the Headquarters could easily contribute to the action. Recognizing the importance of the whole undertaking, the Commander of the Multinational Corps Northeast Lieutenant General Rainer Korff put his Commander’s Coin up for a special auction.
On 9 January, the day of the 19th Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, the MNC NE Promotion Tent was pitched next to one of shopping centres in Szczecin. All people visiting the tent were kindly encouraged to donate money for children. To express gratitude for their generosity, they received small gifts, such as MNC NE balloons, pennants or pocket calendars. Anyone interested in the activities of the Corps could watch a video or see an exhibition on MNC NE. A display of desert uniforms of all eleven nations contributing to the Corps was quite an attraction too. All visitors also had an opportunity to take a photo in desert uniforms using special photographic backgrounds presenting Danish, German and Polish desert uniforms. Moreover, everyone could try delicious army-style pea soup prepared by military cooks from Headquarters Company.
Most of all, it should be emphasized that representatives of all nations working at the Corps were present at the tent the whole day taking an active part in the Orchestra. It proves the fact that the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, which is among most popular charity organisations in Poland, has also been recognized by other nations as important and worthwhile.
