On 13 January 2011, the German 610th Signal Battalion and the city of Prenzlau organised common New Year’s Reception attended also by the delegation of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) headed by the Corps Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff as well as representatives of the Command Support Brigade (CSB).
Around 1000 people participated in the New Year’s Reception held in Prenzlau, including representatives from the Federal State Parliament, local authorities and other partners of the city and the 610th Signal Battalion. Since the Battalions is subordinated to the Command Support Brigade, which then is an assigned unit to the Multinational Corps Northeast, also delegations from Szczecin’s Corps and Command Support Brigade and its battalions were invited for the event. The Corps Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff was assisted by Chief of Headquarters’ G6 Division Colonel Norbert Hanisch, whereas from CSB side arrived the CSB Commander Colonel Jarosław Mika, his Deputy Colonel Marian Matoszka and CSM Daniel Szkudło.
The Mayor of Prenzlau Mr Hendrik Sommer welcomed all the guests and presented achievements of the year which has just ended, putting an emphasis on close cooperation with the 610th Signal Battalion stationed in Prenzlau. The Commander of the 610th Signal Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Peter Bomhardt also made a summary of the past events. A special guest for that evening was the Minister President of Brandenburg Mr Mathias Platzek, who also addressed the audience. The whole reception was enriched by music performance given by the “Wehrbereichsmusikkorps I” from Neubrandenburg and a child’s choir.
As the Corps Commander General Korff underlined, all guests he had conversations with were interested in the future of the Bundeswehr and Multinational Corps Northeast. The Commander expressed confidence that the upcoming developments are nothing to be worried about. “The 610th Signal Battalion is very closely related to us, without support they are providing, we would not be able to fulfill our mission,” he stated being very fond of the Battalion’s performance.
“You could feel the good spirit between the Battalion and local authorities in Prenzlau,” said General Korff emphasizing the importance of close civil-military cooperation and a military unit being deeply integrated within the civilian life of a garrison city.
