During a military ceremony held in Wałcz on 18 February 2011, Major Wiesław Gwóźdź officially took over command of the 100th Signal Battalion and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After the guard of honour, colour party and the flag party entered the square, CSB Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel Waldemar Janiak reported to CSB Commander Colonel Jarosław Mika. “It is a special day for the 100th Signal Battalion, but also for the Command Support Brigade,” Colonel Mika addressed the soldiers and invited guests – representatives of national and local authorities as well as uniformed services. “The assignment of an officer from a parent unit is the highest honour for the whole Command Support Brigade,” stressed Colonel Mika. “There are not many Brigades similar to ours, there are not many Brigades facing similar challenges like we do. And the year 2011 is going to be special in many ways; the Corps Headquarters is in place and we are preparing for the Crystal Eagle 2012 exercise,” he developed. Colonel Mika also addressed Lieutenant Colonel Wiesław Gwóźdź directly: “Your efforts, your professionalism and commitment have been recognized and appreciated by the superiors.” The CSB Commander also thanked him for his service to date and wished him good luck.
"Taking over command of the 100th Signal Battalion is special for me. Right here, in Wałcz, I started my military service. Therefore it is like coming back home,” said Lieutenant Colonel Gwóźdź. „We all know that the 100th Signal Battalion is not an ordinary unit amongst the Polish Armed Forces. Yet it is a young unit, but a modern one. Owing to my predecessors and high level of training, it is also recognizable both at home and abroad,” he continued. “I am aware of all responsibilities resting on me. But I am certain I will be able to deal with them,” Lieutenant Colonel Gwóźdź assured. He also underlined the importance of harmonious relations with the national and local authorities as well as within the battalion itself: “You can count on me just like I can count on you!,” he said to his soldiers
