To familiarize with a video camera and a microphone was the most important objective for Media Training 2011 held in Baltic Barracks from 4 to 7 April 2011.
“It was mostly about encouraging people to simply stand in front of a camera and speak into the microphone,” stressed Lieutenant Colonel Wojciech Wiśniewski, Chief of the Headquarters Public Affairs Office responsible for the training. “Everyone in this Headquarters plays a very important role being an ambassador of this Corps and the Armed Forces he or she represents. There is nothing better than sharing the knowledge about the Corps and its unique multinational environment with the public,” underlined Lieutenant Colonel Wiśniewski.
This year’s Media Training was prepared by personnel of the Headquarters Public Affairs Office, supported by the Chief Visitors and Observers Bureau and a draftsman from G6 Staff Division. Selected personnel of the Headquarters, including the Command Group, Senior National Representatives and respective Chiefs of Staff Divisions and branches, were presented with basic rules that guide good relations between the Corps’ staff and media representatives. Moreover, each participant of the training had several opportunities to give TV interviews being exposed to both easy and more challenging questions. Individual feedback given to each interviewee enhanced the awareness of how he or she comes out as a speaker on TV, what the strong points are and how to say what he or she really intends to say.
After four days of training, the organisers of the training felt confident that all participants of the training learnt new things about relations with media and the important role media play in the contemporary world. Even more importantly, they reassured themselves that the Corps’ members are open to media representatives and in this way the public, always being eager to present information about the Corps – its role, mission and main activities.
