The Corps Committee members from the three Framework Nations, i.e. Denmark, Germany and Poland, members of the Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) as well as Senior National Officers of the Corps’ Participating States met for the 42nd session of the Corps Committee, which took place in Baltic Barracks on 17 and 18 May 2011.
This year’s chairmanship is held by Germany, therefore, the German representative Colonel Bernd Holthusen, who temporarily replaced Colonel Alfons Mais delegated on another national post, chaired the session of the Corps Committee. He was supported by Lieutenant Colonel Thorsten Fries acting as the Secretary. The Polish side was represented, just like in March, by the Co-Chairman Colonel Dariusz Parylak and the Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Karczewski, whereas Lieutenant Colonel Bjarne Møller served as the Co-Chairman and Major Frank Lyth as the Secretary from the Danish side.
As a direct consequence of decisions made during the last Corps Committee Meeting concerning transparency of all actions taken by the Committee, representatives of all Participating States of the Corps had been invited to take part in the session. Full recognition of Participating States’ position while discussing the Corps’ future sets an important precedence within units of the NATO Force Structure. Having followed the Corps Commander’s guidance in this respect, for sure it will positively influence the flow of information among the whole MNC NE family.
One of the most important topics for this session was the ongoing structure review which shall result in an organisation that will better suit future tasks and missions of the Corps. As the first tangible results came into light with the activation of G-7 Staff Division on 16 May 2011, the process still requires further elaboration and documentation to be prepared by the Corps. However, with small steps, the structure review is moving forward.
Since effective flow of information and transparency have been identified as key issues for successful communication, the Corps’ Commander Lieutenant General Rainer Korff set sights of the MNC NE key leaders on further coordination of messages spread to the public so that the voice of the Corps could be even more distinctive and recognized.
Even though the summer is just about to start, everyone involved in the Corps Committee – both from the side of the Committee itself and the Headquarters are going to have a busy time in order to follow a demanding schedule and meet in Berlin in September for the next Corps Committee Meeting.
