On 30 June 2011 members of the Medical Centre from Germany visited Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) to familiarize with the Corps tasks, organization and history.
A group of soldiers consisting of a doctor, nurses and other special medical staff had an opportunity to visit Baltic Barracks. Guests from Medical Centre are working in one of Medical Support Units for German soldiers located in Torgelow, Germany.
Lieutenant Colonel Boris Schnelle, Chief of the Headquarters’ Visitors and Observers Bureau (VOB), gave a presentation which covered various areas of interest. During this part the visitors had an opportunity to learn about missions, tasks, organization and history of the Corps. The participants were especially interested in the work of medical personnel during the time when staff of the Corps was deployed on a mission in Afghanistan in 2007 and 2010.
On a daily basis, the whole HQ MNC NE personnel receive first aid from the Medical Centre located in Baltic Barracks. For more specialist care, they address hospitals in the city or their home country. The Medical Centre in Torgelow offers special medical support for German personnel working in Szczecin. “We are trying to keep your personnel in a good shape,” said Major Peggy Lietz, first staff doctor from the group. “One of the main tasks of the Medical Centre in Torgelow is also preparing a medical examination for soldiers who are going to take part in foreign missions. We met German soldiers from this HQ in Torgelow before and after their missions in Afghanistan in 2007 and 2010,” she added.
During the first visit in Baltic Barracks, the guests had an opportunity not only to meet and talk with German soldiers but also to feel the atmosphere of working in a multinational compound where representatives from 11 nations cooperate with each other.
