“A different way of team Building“ – that was the approach of Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) corps of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) for this year’s educational trip to Berlin from 15 to 17 November 2011.
The briefing at the Ministry of Defence was given by Lieutenant Colonel Sembritzki who presented some detailed insights from the view of the commander of the Quick Reaction Force 5 in northern Afghanistan during the mission in 2010. Then the NCOs took the opportunity to lay down a wreath at the Monument of Honour in order to pay tribute to German soldiers, airmen, sailors and civilian employees killed on duty.
The second day of the trip started with a guided city tour of Berlin. Mr Christoph Prinz, a professional tourist guide, overwhelmed all the participants with his outstanding knowledge of the city and its history and made this tour an unforgettable event for everybody. Visiting the Checkpoint Charlie and the Wall Museum provided an impressive view on Berlin’s history as a divided city. During common dinner, the Non Commissioned Officers had the chance to discuss their thoughts and events of the day.
As a final point on the aganda, the group visited a former nuclear bunker Harnekop near Straussberg, built in the 70s to host the East German Ministry of Defence in case of war. Lieutenant Colonel Schnelle, together with a tour guide, gave the NCOs a remarkable picture of this impressive construction.
