On 13 – 15 October Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast conducted its first First Emergency Establishment Personnel Weekend (EES – WE) in Szczecin. It is a yearly event of the HQ in order to familiarize the EES personnel (EES PERS) with the HQ itself, the individual tasks within the functional areas and to prepare them within the functional areas for coming exercise CRYSTAL EAGLE.
This year it was the first EES – WE of HQ MNC NE after its foundation in 1999. Then additional intentions were considered as well. There was done an introducing the Peacetime HQ and its personnel. EES – WE was a good occasion to integrate the EES PERS into the HQ including new social contacts.
Out of 193 already appointed EES PERS 175 participated in the EES - WE. That it was a successes as this shows the interest of the EES PERS in the HQ. 164 of them will participate in EXERCISE CRYSTAL EAGLE 2000.
On the first day of EES – WE (FRIDAY) there started with overall briefings, which gave the overview about the HQ in peacetime, crisis and war. The day ended with an unofficial beer call in the different clubs. On 14 OCT there mainly covered the functional area training. Approximately 280 persons participated in the stag party in the evening, which gave everybody the chance to get in contact with members of the other functional areas and other nations. On Sunday was used to inform the EES personnel about exercises and required participation as well as national requirements and regulations.
The foundation of another club this HQ, (EESA) which consists of EES PERS of all ranks and nations, was one of the highlights of Sunday morning. The constitution was agreed on and MAJ P.S. ANDERSEN (reserve officer from Danish Army) was elected as first president.
The EES_WE was completed by a sightseeing tour around Szczecin on a voluntary basis on Sunday afternoon, guided by LTCOL E. Szczepanski (G - 4 DIV) who was very familiar with the history of the city and one of our excellent tour guides.
