According to the scenario of the exercise "STRONG RESOLVE 2002", which took place on 1-15 March in Poland and Norway, the participating forces were going to face two different threats appearing simultaneously. Norway were attacked from outside by conventional forces, while NATO soldiers conducted an operation to separate two hostile armies in a non-NATO country. For the purposes of the exercise, this country was Poland, where assault forces were sent.
The operation were conducted by a total of 40 thousand servicemen from the land, naval and air forces of 25 countries, of which 26 thousand were on exercise in Poland, directed by SACLANT onboard Mount Whitney, USA. HQ MNC NE played the role of the Land Component Command.
